  • So, lessee, you pay $200 for the panel, $150 for each instrument, plus probably another $100-200 for the control yoke, another $100 for the throttle. With nine of the Saitek instruments, and everything else, you’re running close to $2,000.
Then, on top of that, you’ll probably want t dedicated computer, 3-5 30" 1080 or 1440 displays, good sound system, that’s another $4K.
If you can’t actually fly, for whatever reason, that’s a great investment. However, what I would REALLY like to see is Garmin, Dynon and others come out with software for their displays that can be driven by a computer, not an ADHRS and GPS. You can buy both a 10" and 7" PC display. You could ‘build’ a G500/600TXi 10" display and a 7" EMIS. Heck, if Dynon really wanted to do something, they could build and offer the front end of the Skyview HDX system to Simmers. Simply add the two front panel knobs and the softkeys which can control the software connected to Flight Sim or X Plane.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I’m dreaming, but it would be a great way to make money for both companies, would be ideally suited for the sim industry, and would be ‘more’ realistic for the owner of an airplane who wanted a more ‘personalized’ sim cockpit for instrument proficiency, even if they can’t log it.

  • This looks interesting. I used flying simulators in their infancy when I was younger and found them to be an asset later on. Occasionally I still use one to keep up with certain aspects of my flying.
